About Circuit Clinical
Circuit Clinical is an Integrated Research Organization (IRO) on a mission to transform how people access and experience clinical trials. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Buffalo, New York, the company brings clinical research directly to community healthcare settings rather than requiring patients to travel to traditional academic research centers. Circuit Clinical has built one of the largest IROs in the United States, providing direct EMR access to over 2.5 million participants within their partner health systems. The company operates through multiple Community Research Networks, including a Growing Site Partnership Network embedded in communities and a Remote Site Network of Principal Investigators across the US. Their approach enables physicians to conduct clinical research in-office, online, or through hybrid models, with dedicated medical, legal, and regulatory staff handling backend operations. Circuit Clinical serves three primary constituencies: patients seeking clinical trials as a care option, physicians wanting to conduct research, and industry sponsors/CROs needing recruitment and enrollment support. Circuit Clinical's solutions include traditional on-site Phase I-IV clinical trial management, biospecimen collection and processing services, and MD PreScreen—a proprietary screening service led by experienced research nurses. The company has completed over 300 clinical projects and works with 150+ Principal Investigators across 20+ physician groups in eight geographic regions. Their strategic partnerships include Medidata (creating turnkey DCT solutions), Labcorp (expanding access through FQHCs), and NextGen Healthcare (leveraging comprehensive data for diverse trial recruitment). Circuit Clinical is committed to democratizing clinical trials and improving representation in medical research.
Mission & Story

Founding Story
Circuit Clinical was founded in 2016 by Irfan Khan, MD. The company was born from a vision to transform clinical trial access by bringing research into community healthcare settings rather than limiting it to academic research centers in larger cities. In 2020, the Board named Irfan Khan, MD, as CEO and Kerry Hicks (formerly of Healthgrades) as Executive Chairman. The company won the 43North competition, a startup investment incubator located in Buffalo, NY, which helped accelerate its growth.
