About Neko Health

Neko Health is a health technology company founded in 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden, that is redefining preventive healthcare through proprietary technology and clinical innovation. Co-founded by Spotify founder Daniel Ek and engineer Hjalmar Nilsonne, Neko was created to answer a fundamental question: what would healthcare look like if it were designed around keeping people healthy, rather than treating illness? The company has engineered an end-to-end preventive health system from the ground up, including four proprietary devices—Derma, Spectrum, Echo, and Neko Lens—all designed, engineered, and assembled in their Stockholm facility. The Neko Health Scan captures over 2,000 high-resolution skin images, performs comprehensive cardiovascular assessments including arterial analysis and EKG, analyzes blood samples in on-site labs with results in minutes, and measures body composition including visceral fat. The entire process takes under one hour, with results processed instantly and reviewed in an in-depth consultation with a Neko clinician. The company operates multiple locations across the UK (London, Birmingham, Manchester) and Sweden (Stockholm), with plans to launch in New York City in 2026. With a team of over 1,000 professionals—more than half in clinical roles—Neko is backed by experienced technology investors and led by clinical leadership including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sunita Mishra and Global Medical Director Dr. Nikita Kanani MBE. The company is actively conducting clinical research through partnerships including SCAPIS 2 studies focused on microcirculation, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes complications.

Mission & Story

Mission

To put health – not illness – at the heart of the 21st century healthcare system, building a system around the healthy, not just the sick, that catches conditions early, collects health data continuously, and gives clinicians the time to actually talk.

Founding Story

Founded in 2018 by Daniel Ek (founder of Spotify) and Hjalmar Nilsonne (engineer from energy transition background). Daniel approached Hjalmar with a provocative question: 'If there were no healthcare system, and we had to design one today, what would it look like?' They agreed the answer was a system built around the healthy, not just the sick, that caught conditions early and gave clinicians time to care. Daniel saw parallels to rebuilding the music industry with Spotify, while Hjalmar brought engineering expertise from a family of doctors.
