About Stryker Mako

Stryker Mako SmartRobotics is a comprehensive robotic-arm assisted surgery platform designed to elevate surgeon control and confidence across multiple orthopaedic procedures. The system combines 3D CT-based preoperative planning with proprietary AccuStop haptic technology to help optimize implant placement and surgical outcomes. Mako supports total knee arthroplasty, total hip arthroplasty, partial knee arthroplasty, and spine procedures through a single integrated platform. The fourth-generation Mako 4 System integrates Stryker's Q Guidance System, built on over 20 years of experience developing surgical guidance technologies. The platform enables surgeons to assess soft tissue laxities intraoperatively, visualize potential impingement across different patient positions, and dynamically balance soft tissue tensioning with the goal of recreating natural joint kinematics. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Mako procedures result in more pristine bone resections, less soft tissue damage, and greater bone preservation compared to manual cutting blocks. The system features the proprietary FP8000 camera operating up to 15x faster than leading competitors in spine applications, large display monitors for enhanced intraoperative visibility, and a space-efficient design for ease of transport and setup. With over 2.5 million procedures performed globally and installations in over 47 countries, Mako represents two decades of robotic-arm assisted surgery experience. The platform is supported by over 800 contributions to the global scientific record and more than 2,000 patents and patent applications established worldwide.
